Installation at expo “Pics Struc- tured”, Kunstlijn Haarlem 2017

C is for color

Once -I think around 1998- someone, with an excuse, secretly placed thousands of porn pictures on my computer. He had bought a dozen CDs or so for a lot of money and had already proudly displayed the stack. Maybe he meant well, but it still felt like an invasion of my privacy.
He asked if he could answer his e-mail on my computer… Of course! … My computer where everything was on. My computer!

The images kept “chasing” me. I threw them away many times, but somehow they always resurfaced from backup and I often kept them again. Maybe also because they had so much value, but mainly because they got older and older (read vintage)… Just to be clear; I don't hate porn, the opposite is true I would say, but mainly because of the violation of my privacy, this felt 'dirty'. Oh well... I loved the colors so much... Because of the shoddy quality too, bad scans and saved with a lot of quality loss due to high compression. I love that! After more than thirty years I have processed the images from the CDs in this series of works and in the book Pics Struc- tured.
